Rick Santorum has made an impressive, eleventh hour comeback in his bid to be the Republican party candidate for America's 2012 Presidential election, yesterday.
The 54 year-old won crucial votes in Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado, despite being considered an outsider in the political race.
Previously, Mitt Romney was looking like a clear winner to represent the party in their White House bid, but Santorum's victory has undermined this.
According to CBS News, Santorum won 45 percent of the vote in Minnesota, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas coming
in second place with 27 percent. Romney earned 17 percent while Newt
Gingrich took 11 per cent.
For Missouri, Santorum picked up 55 per cent of the vote – a huge victory margin compared to Romney's 25 per cent.
the win was less dramatic in Colorado, with Santorum securing 40 per cent over Romney's 35 per cent.
His victories are considered a blow to equality activists, who consider him the most right-wing of the Republican party candidates.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I don't stand here to claim to be the
conservative alternative to Mitt Romney. I stand here to be the
conservative alternative to Barack Obama," Santorum told supporters.
Santorum – who now has four victories under his belt in the GOP race, more than any other candidate – has previously compared homosexuality to
pedophilia and bestiality.
