A British man, who fell overboard during a gay cruise to Mexico, is feared to be dead amid reports that CCTV footage shows him falling “intentionally”.
A fellow passenger saw the unnamed 30-year-old man fall from his balcony on the Allure of the Seas ship on Friday during the week-long gay cruise from Florida to Cozumel in Mexico, according to Royal Caribbean, the ship’s owners.
As reported by The Telegraph, Royal Caribbean said in a statement: “The ship made multiple public announcements and began a complete search of the ship, in efforts to locate the guest.
“When the guest did not respond to the pages and was not found on-board, the captain alerted the local authorities of the situation."
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson added: “A review of the ship’s closed-circuit camera footage observed the 30-year-old British male guest going over the balcony railing in his room,” before adding that the footage “shows the guest intentionally went overboard”, the Mirror reports.
The 5,400-passenger Allure of the Seas, the world’s biggest cruise ship, was chartered for the seven-day cruise around the Caribbean by gay holiday specialists Atlantis Events, which also oversees two gay resorts in Mexico.
The family of the missing man has been informed, according to the Foreign Office.
