A lesbian pair from the U.S. state of Chicago have become the second-ever couple to wed in the southern African country of Angola.
The women, known only as São Paulo and Mario, married five years after they first became engaged. They also had godparents who are public figures in Luanda, Africa Review report.
Despite homosexuality being illegal in Angola, meaning the union will have no official standing, it is considered a socio-political milestone.
That said, it is not the first same-sex union of its kind there – the first reportedly took palce in 2006.
Currently, Angolan Penal Code imposes criminal sanctions on those who practice acts “against the order of nature”.
