Poland's government will officially welcome its very first openly-gay MP, this month.
Robert Biedron, of the Palikot Movement party, is the first out member of parliament and also serves on the board of the Polish Campaign Against Homophobia.
The move, which follows last month's general election, is considered a milestone for the conservative country – and is symbolic that the church is having a decreasing influence on society there.
Currently, Poland remains a traditionally Roman Catholic country with strict views about homosexuality and abortion.
However, Biedron has vowed to campaign for anti-discrimination legislation and to legalise civil unions for same-sex
couples.
