
A bomb scare at London's Heathrow airport was caused by a gay couples arguing, it was revealed today.
According to the Evening Standard, armed officers pounced on a 72-year-old man after a 999 call to police claimed he was carrying explosives and planned to detonate the device in Terminal 5.
British Transport Police also launched a major operation to intercept the so-called bomber during his journey to the airport on an overground train.
But, earlier today, a man in his thirties was arrested by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of making a hoax phone call.
A source told the ES: “Someone gave the man’s name and said that he had a bomb in his bag and was on his way to blow something up. He did not specify what.
“These allegations have to be taken seriously and precautions needed to be taken. Once the man at Heathrow was stopped and searched he was quickly ruled out.”
The man was arrested before he had gone through security at Terminal 5 but some planes were delayed by the scare.
Officers said the younger man faces prosecution for wasting police time and making a false claims about a bomb.
