Mexico 398 same sex couples have married in the six months since gay marriage became legal in Mexico City.

The law permitting same sex married couples equal rights to their straight counterparts - including the right to adopt - came into effect on 4 March this year. Couples married in Mexico City are validly married throughout all 31 Mexican states.

According to On Top Magazine, new figures released by Mexico City's government yesterday indicate that since 4 March, 211 male couples and 187 female couples have entered into marriage.

Of the 393 couples, many are aged between 30 and 40; four are aged between 71 and 90.
