Openly-gay singer/songwriter Beth Ditto has confessed to being in awe of British supermodel and friend Kate Moss.
The Gossip frontwoman, who once posed naked for the cover of NME, told Marie
Claire magazine: "Oh my God, I still can't call her by her first name,
I'm like, 'Oh Kate Moss, I can't go in there!'
"We're friends...but not super good friends, not because we don't like each other. We're in two different circles."
She added: "I do think she's helped me a lot by being a really cool bad-a*s
person. She likes what she likes and she likes who she likes and she
just happens to be really gorgeous and good at what she does."
Ditto also credits Moss for her plus-size clothing range
with UK retailer Evans.
She revealed: "She is the
reason I have the line at Evans. Because she had her line at Topshop
and she was trying to get Philip Green involved. And when I told her
about Evans she was like, 'Finally, two years later!' "
Previously, Ditto – who once called herself a "fat, feminist lesbian from
Arkansas" – has blamed gay
men in the fashion industry for the size zero trend.
"If there’s anyone to blame for size zero, it’s not women," she
said. "Blame gay men who work in the fashion industry who want these
women as dolls.
"Men
don’t know what it feels like to be a woman and be expected to look a
particular way. The Beckhams are part of the machine; Paris Hilton is
part of the machine."
