midlands The licensee of a Birmingham gay bar has been given a 10 month suspended jail sentence after admitting assault.

Andy King, licensee of The Fox in Birmingham, was arrested on suspicion of wounding earlier this year following an incident at The Queen’s Tavern in Birmingham city centre, where a 33-year-old man received injuries to his face.

King originally pleaded not guilty to the wounding with intent charge at Birmingham Magistrates Court reports Midlands Zone magazine.

When the case was heard at the city’s Crown Court, King changed his plea to guilty as charged. This followed an agreement with the Crown Prosecution Service that conditions should be attached to the charge that the wounding was caused by reckless behaviour without any deliberate intent.

Prior to the verdict, King had no previous convictions or incidents.

In addition to the 10 month suspended sentence for two years, hewas also ordered to carry out 80 hours community service and to pay £700 legal costs.
