A 27-year-old man from Birmingham has changed his name by deed poll to Edward Cullen.
After being assured that his name change was 100% legit and confirmed by deed poll, PinkPaper.com asked openly gay Cullen why he had decided to change his name. He said: “I’d just come out of a four-and-a-half year relationship, and basically, I just wanted to completely change everything about my life and start again, so I moved to a new flat, changed jobs and changed my name,”
“I watched the first Twilight film and then I was completely hooked. Other than the biting, obviously, Edward Cullen is just the perfect guy. He’s well-mannered, he’s respectful and he’s a proper gent – it’s something you don’t see very often anymore,” the barman from Birmingham said.
Edward, who used to be called Luke, did not worry about people’s reactions. He said: “ My mum at first thought I was completely mad, but she’s sort of got used to it now. My brother just finds it hilarious. People do think it’s strange but in a cool way.”
Mr Cullen has booked a trip to Forks, Washington (where the books and films are set) next year and is currently growing his hair in a bid to look more like his namesake. He is not currently in a relationship, but is seeing someone. “It was actually rather difficult at first, because the guy I’m seeing is more into Jacob. But it didn’t really cause problems, it was just funny to be honest,” he told us.
Changing your name by deed poll costs £33. You can apply online, by post, by telephone or in person. See ukdps.co.uk for more information.
