Manch Pride 2010 Thousands of people lined the streets of Manchester city centre for last weekend’s Pride festival.

The most popular event was the Pride Parade which took place on Saturday, and was led by Grand Marshal and Lancashire-born star of stage and screen, Sir Ian McKellen. US superstar Kelis headlined the weekend.

Despite the wet weather, over 100 floats took part in the procession, which ran from Deansgate, through the city centre, ending in the Gay Village. Famous faces from Manchester-based soap Coronation Street won the prize for best float overall, while other groups involved included a marching police band and the Lesbian and Gay Foundation.

Festival organiser Jackie Crozier told the BBC: "We're absolutely delighted with the amount of people who have turned out and also the people that have put so much effort into their parade entries - it's just fantastic."

The event has been heralded as a success, despite the attendance of a group of Christian protesters outside John Rylands Library on Deansgate, whose cries the crowd largely ignored.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of Manchester Pride, which raises money for and promotes awareness of LGBT causes in and around Greater Manchester.

Its no feat! A massive free party. Pride has lost its purpose. Much cheaper than the cost of going to a festival!!

It was a good weekend and the parade was very good, took many pics, you will always get the odd ones (groups-demonstrating) and sadly we have to live with it, maybe if we did a 'christian parade' I wonder how many of them would join in...Not many.
