christianity2 A private Christian school in Texas has denied admission to a young girl with lesbian parents on the basis of its “clear teaching of the Christian faith."

The dean of St Vincent’s Cathedral School explained the refusal in a statement emailed to CNN sister network HLN. He said the school “upholds the clear teaching of the Christian faith, the Holy Bible, and the Anglican Church in North America.”

The Rev Ryan Reed continued: "We based our decisions about enrolment on what is best for the children of St. Vincent's as a whole and in conformity with the above standards," he said. "We regret the disappointment the mother feels, but also do not understand why she would want to enroll her child in a school that would undercut her own personal values at home."

Reed added in another email to the station that the school had no issue with a single mother “lesbian or not, living chaste”. Jill Harrison, the child’s mother, has however claimed that the school only acted after she and her partner, Tracy Harrison, recently attended a parents’ night together.

"The God that I know and the God that I love will love me and love my children no matter what,” said Tracy Harrison.
