Vivien Leigh Late English actress Vivien Leigh was bisexual, a new biography claims.

The iconic Hollywood star, who made her name in classic films such as Gone With the Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire, also suffered from severe mental illness, according to Damn You, Scarlett O'Hara - the title a nod to her Gone With the Wind character.

Despite her fairy-tale romance with fellow actor Laurence Olivier, the book names some of the supposed gay lovers of the two time Oscar-winner, who died of tuberculosis in 1967. One is said to be British actress Isabel Jeans.

The book, which lifts from witness accounts and unpublished memoirs, also suggests that her 20-year marriage to Olivier in 1940 was a sham and that the actress had an appetite for 'rough trade' and would visit LA brothels, writes the Mail Online.

The biography is written by Darwin Porter, who knew Leigh towards the end of her life, as well Leigh's former assistant Roy Moseley. It will be published in the US.
