A record number of runners completed the London Pride Run last weekend with 760 participants crossing the line.
The annual 10k (6.2-mile) event which has been held since 2004 and is organised by London Frontrunners, Britain’s largest lesbian and gay running club saw athletes sprint across three laps of East London’s Victoria Park on 14 August.
Actress Helen Lederer and entrepreneur Ivan Massow both joined in the charity race, whilst celebrity nun, Sister Mary McCarthur, was on hand providing post-race entertainment.
Jamal Mohamed, of Victoria Park Harriers, was the first to complete the course in a time of 32 minutes and 1 second. The first woman to finish was Alice Sunderland of Harrow Athletics Club in an equally impressive time of 35 minutes 34 seconds.
The male team prize went to Serpentine Running Club with host club, London Frontrunners taking the female team prize.
The money raised from the event will this year go to support the work of London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard (LLGS), which provides support and information to the LGBT community and anyone who has any issues around sexual orientation.
Runner James Argent, who also volunteers with the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard, commented: “It was great to see everyone running and having fun whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause.”
Sunjay Bhogal, who also ran, added: “This is the best 10km running event ever, the organisers deserve a gold medal.”
