Ben Cohen supports Gay Spor Rugby star Ben Cohen is supporting this year’s Gay Sports Day, which takes place on 30 August.

The annual event, organised by GMFA, the gay men’s health charity, and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, has become a highlight of the gay summer calendar.

“I am happy to support this year’s GMFA/RVT Gay Sports Day. Sport is an important part of my life and it’s great to see a community come together and enjoy sport in such a fun and accessible way. Plus it raises vital funds for the important work carried out by GMFA and the other charities which will benefit from the day," Cohen says.

“I would encourage everyone to form a team and take part or show your appreciation by making a donation on the day. I will personally be donating items that will be part of an auction at the end of the event. Best of luck to all the competitors and have a fantastic day.”

The day will see teams battle for victory in events such as the drag relay, the handbag throw and the fabulous 50m mince. Registration is now open at www.gmfa.org.uk/sportsday, so you can sign your team up, get training and help raise vital money to benefit gay men and the local community.

There will be trophies for the winning team, the team that raises the most money, and for the team judged to be wearing the best costumes.

The money raised will go towards helping GMFA carry out its vital work with gay men. The charity works with volunteers, most of whom are gay men, to tackle gay men’s health issues, including sexual health, general wellbeing, and self-esteem.

Money will also go to two organisations that help look after the local Vauxhall community - Vauxhall City Farm and The Friends of Spring Gardens.

The event will start at 1pm in Spring Gardens in London's Vauxhall.

It is always good to see Ben supporting the gay sports community. He continues to be an active in the gay rugby world proving his support for Manchest to win their bid to host the Bingham cup in 2012. As a fellow rucgger, it is good for someone to show that straight men are not the only ones that can play sports even a rough one like rugby. I hope one day I can get at least a quote from him for my gay rugby site homorugger.com.
