midlands The city of Leicester has lost two gay venues in one day, after the owner began proceedings to make himself bankrupt last month.

Paul Giles, owner of Quebec and The Village, told Midlands Zone magazine that he was still hoping to re-open Quebec later in the year, despite closing both venues in July.

Giles states: “Quebec opened in 1999 and soon grew into an award-winning nightclub. After two-and-a-half years of recession and in common with many other venues in this trade, difficult trading conditions made it necessary to close its doors.”

He added: “Everybody involved with the club is working tirelessly to re-organise the business and reopen a fully refurbished club later in 2010.”

Giles also says said he was considering a number of options for The Village which included “turning the building into apartments.”
