The second Norwich Pride is taking place this weekend.
On Friday 30 July at the Norwich Arts Centre, the Pride Carnival Cabaret kicks off the weekend’s celebrations; Hocus Pocus Theatre presents an eclectic evening featuring Miss Annabel Sings, described by Time Out as ‘divine’, London Burlesque Prize winners the Hot Boppin’ Girls and Dreamboys stripper Devon.
The parade itself kicks off on Saturday at 2pm from Chapelfield Gardens, and finishes up at Millennium Plain, outside The Forum. The Norwich Samba Band will head the parade, and the Mayor and Town Crier of the city will be in attendance to show their support.
Aside from the parade, there will be a range of activities on Millennium Plain, including the ‘biggest, gayest bus in the world’, from Pink Punters in Milton Keynes, as well as the Pride Picnic immediately before the parade, and a celebration of Pride later on in the afternoon. There’s also an interfaith service from the Unitarians, one of the first denominations to accept openly gay people into the ministry.
A number of venues in the city will be hosting post-parade parties, including the Pride Party at the Coach & Horses with Drag Idol winner Tanya Hide, and Ladyfest Norwich, a celebration of female creativity at the Arts Centre.
