Justin logo .new The Justin Campaign has been selected as the recipient of partial proceeds from a Canadian football fundraising calendar, this month.

The Campaign will receive $2 (£1.30) from every calendar sold by Downtown Soccer Toronto, which is the city’s first official gay and lesbian summer co-ed recreational football league.

The Justin Campaign was chosen as the preferred charity for the fundraising initiative after an open poll was conducted with members of the Toronto league.

It is hoped that the calendar, which relied solely on volunteer models, photographers, and designers will raise a positive amount of cash for the Campaign which was set up in 2008 to mark ten years since the tragic death of Justin Fashanu, who was and is still the only openly gay footballer in the UK.

Darren Ollerton, director of The Justin Campaign, said he is extremely pleased with the decision: “The Justin Campaign is delighted by the news that the DST has decided to make such a generous donation to our work.” He said.

“We look forward to building on this new found relationship with our friends in Canada and hope that the 2011 observance of Football v Homophobia is successful in demonstrating that this issue is very much an international concern.”

DST Communications Officer Keph Senett, added: “Downtown Soccer Toronto is committed to providing an inclusive space for everybody to play soccer. The goals of The Justin Campaign are aligned with ours.”
