City Walking Manchester’s so-called Gay City Strollers will return to the city next month offering the local gay community the chance to get out, get healthier and get walking.

Launched in partnership with The Ramblers BIG lottery funded, Get Walking Keep Walking and the Lesbian, and Gay Foundation, the free short walks will run every Saturday for four weeks starting from 1 May at 10.30am from the LGF offices on Princess Street.

The friendly group which is open to all ages and abilities will aim to show participants interesting routes through the city centre and how walking can be built into part of anyone’s regular routine, allowing them to get healthier and happier as a result.

Samantha Days, from the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, said: “The Gay City Strollers are a great way to get that little bit fitter and meet new people away from the traditional ‘scene’. This is the third time we’ve run the Strollers and they just keep getting bigger and better.”

Jen Green, Project Coordinator for the Ramblers Get Walking Keep Walking, added: “When you walk, you talk and often people don’t realise how much exercise they’ve done because they’re so busy chatting.”

Gay City Strollers will also give participants the chance to explore their creative side through the staging of a photography project running alongside the walks.
