Orlando Jordan came out on Monday, becoming the first openly bisexual pro-wrestler.
Jordan, who made his debut with wrestling organisation Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in January, announced his bisexuality to the public on Monday, with a choreographed entrance into the ring.
The 38-year-old was lowered from the ceiling, wrapped in TNA caution tape. Once on the ground, he posed for the audience and proceeded to crawl out of the ring and sit on a couch between a man and a woman, back-dropped by a flag depicting two male and one female symbols.
The baffled commentators can be heard in the recording, labelling the wrestler’s behaviour as ‘outlandish’, ‘eccentric’ and ‘bizarre’.
The wrestling industry has a history of including stereotypical gay characters in their performances, all of which are usually portrayed by heterosexual athletes.
According to news site EDGE New York, Jordan declared his sexuality in 2006 during an interview with World Wrestling Insanity host James Guttman.
In the interview, the wrestler said it was ‘too bad’ if the audience reacted badly. "It is what it is and you cannot let that stop you [simply] because there are haters out there,” he added.
