Actress and talk-show host Rosie O’Donnell is on the wagon, according to reports.

In an interview with Tyra Banks, O’Donnell said her breaking point was when her 13-year-old son, Parker, expressed concern over her excessive drinking.

She told Banks: “I was with my son, who is now 13, and I said to him: ‘Park, can you get me a beer?’ And he said: ‘No, I don’t want to.’ And I said: ‘Really, why not?’ And he replied: ‘Because you know what, I think you drink too much beer… Lately I think it’s too much.’"

According to the comedienne, she hasn’t downed a beer since December last year.

Prior to that, her longest period of sobriety was in 1984 and continued for 8 years.

Unfortunately the LGBT community is very badly affected by alcohol and drug addiction. The statistics prove this to be the case. Maybe it is because our scene revolves around the bars and clubs or maybe it is as some commentators thinks that LGBT people are more spiritually inclined, evidently the link between spirtuality and addiction is quite strong. I personally have seen friends literally disintegrate before my eyes because of alcholism/drugs. Thankfully some of them found fellowships like AA,NA etc. I know many friends who have also found great support in Al-Anon for families/friends of alcoholics. They learned that the didn't cause, they can't control and they can't cure their loved ones drinking. Only the addict can stop and the 12 step fellowships are a free and readily available way of getting help. So best wishes to Rosie, I hope for here and her son's sake she can beat her addiction.
