UK lifestyle store Clone Zone confirmed today that it has gone into administration, the Pink Paper can report.

Four of their stores have closed in Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol and Brighton, as the credit crunch continues to bite. This is the latest in a series of closures to hit the high street in recent weeks.

A spokesperson for the retailer said that remaining branches in London’s Soho, Bournemouth, Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester will trade as usual for the foreseable future, as will their online store.

As their future hangs in the balance, the company – who had no official comment on the matter – also confirmed that a number of staff have been made redundant and, as a result, are operating at a skeletal structure.

Currently, Clone Zone have no plans to re-open the closed branches at a later date.

i'm not surprised with the prices that clone zone charge that they have not got the customer base they once had lets not forget we are in deep ression and people will have to lower their prices my family operate 32 motor dealerships and have moved with the times which is serving us well now we looked after our money in the good times as we did our loyal customers you can only take so much out and then there is nothing left. let what has happened to clone zone be a lesson to other gay businesses as all they seem to do is take take and take

Its sad to see all these places folding, but we mustnt forget they have had it good in the past for a long time and spent the profits. I live in oakham Rutland and you cant buy mens underwear in the town so I thought I would order 20 nice pairs from Clone Zone on-line I was told they could only suply two pairs so I called the shop and asked if they could get some more in stock I was told no. So I took a train to stamford found a little shop there who were only to pleased to get the same items from HOM and they delivered to my home free. at a third of the cost Now I bet Clone Zone wish they had not turned away custom the shop I bought from was Straight so the did not need to put the Pink Pound mark up. I agree with previous comments over priced drinks trade magazine are available to all and it annys me to read companies telling bars and retailers to cash in on the pink pound. I am unemployed now so I have no pink pound to spend!

Clone Zone is a good quality store but just like all the gay stores they are far too expensive. The staff are always nice and friendly but the prices puts me off I know they have to pay their rates and wages but if you are gay people tend to chare you more. Even some of the pubs and clubs rip you off with cheap booze.

The sudden closure of Clonezone Leeds has come as a major shock to everyone, especially the staff. Danny, David and I had no idea that this would happen. We received a visit on Tuesday 13th January at 4.00pm, and by 4.45pm the shop was closed. It was all over so quickly, and to be honest it’s still all a bit of a blur. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone for their help and support over the years. All the customers that have shopped with us, chatted with us, laughed with and even sometimes shed a tear with us. All the people that helped us raise money towards events like Drag Idol and Leeds Pride as well as raising much needed funds for Leeds based charities. We are so upset that we didn’t even get the chance to say a proper goodbye to anyone. It has been a great couple of years, and I really do believe that Leeds LGBT scene will never quite be the same again! Love Jon X

CloneZone will be missed in Leeds. Jon and the team were very involved in fundraising for local gay/HIV charities and were a big part of the small scene we have here. I hope Drag Idol survives as this is one of our biggest fundraisers as well as being a highlight on our calendar. Scott Gledhill & Robert Houlgate from Leeds Skyline
