A pensioner has been found guilty of manslaughter following the death of a 25–year–old man in Manchester.
David Broady was convicted after a seven day trial at Manchester Crown Court last week. His victim, Craig Douglas (pictured), 25, was stabbed in the neck with a small knife on Canal Street, close to its junction with Minshull and Aytoun Street, in February – an incident which made
the front-page of the Pink Paper.
He was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary, but died soon after his arrival.
The post-mortem examination revealed he died of a single stab wound to the neck from a weapon about 6cm to 8cm in length.
Police were quick to point out, that despite the attack taking place in the gay village, they were not treating it as a homophobic incident.
Broady, who is 70 years of age, was found guilty after being cleared of murder.
He is due to be sentenced on 11 November 2008.
