The needs of queer pensioners will be one of the focal points of a health summit in Bristol next month.
The theme of the two-day conference, hosted Terrence Higgins Trust and Equality South West on 4 and 5 September, will be equality and diversity.
Paul Dunn, chief executive of Equality South West, said that for too long, LGBT issues have been given less favourable treatment than other areas of equality.
“With the introduction of legal protection for LGBT people in the provision of goods and services, this event will provide a great opportunity for both service providers and individuals to discuss and influence future policies and outcomes.”
Similarly, a new service has been launched by Age Concern Stockport to provide information, advice and support to older queer people living in the town.
The service was officially opened last Wednesday, with speakers including broadcaster Ray Gosling and Steve Pugh, senior lecturer at the University of Salford who presented Moving
Forward – a training and resource pack for agencies working with and for older queer citizens.
