Just hours after PinkPaper.com reported that Brighton Pride has lost its long-standing Women's Tent, clubnight Popstarz are the latest supporter to pull out of this year's festival.
For more than a decade, the London-based clubbing brand presented the Popstarz tent at Preston Park.
Touted as an important link between Brighton and the capital's gay scene, it attracted thousands of men and women throughout the annual celebration.
But now, Tommy Moss - Director of China Dog Ltd, the company that runs Popstarz -
said their involvement is no longer viable and will not happen this summer.
We report on it before any other gay news service.
He spoke to us exclusively, saying: "Basically, two factors were behind our decision. Firstly, the price for the pitch doubled last year and our profits declined.
"We lost so much money as a result. Often that happens in these kind of events, but the PR benefit and general fun off-sets that, but it just became too expensive.
"Secondly, there is a lack of confidence in the general public. I have no personal opinion on the Pride committee per se but what matters is that the public themselves think that numbers may drop as a result this year.
“It's a shame we're not involved as Popstarz in London is a major player on the gay scene - it's the second largest gay club in the capital and we're busier than ever at our new home in The Den and Centro.
"We've been involved for over ten years and we love the festival. Hopefully we can come to an arrangement and be involved in the future. That said, we are still hosting a major Pride aftershow party, of which people can get details from our website.”
Brighton Pride have since made a statement in response to the loss of their Women's Tent, but are yet to officially respond to this story.
More news as we get it.
