The BBC-backed drama, about a lesbian couple struggling to maintain a romance in 19th century England, was screened at last night's opening gala at the ODEON West End, receiving roaring applause.

The festival runs for two weeks until 31 March, with 74 lesbian and gay interest films screened at the BFI Southbank and other various London locations.

The Closing Night Gala screening on 31 Mar is Kareem J Mortimer's Children of God, a film about romance and homophobia in the Bahamas.
