The campaign to get Simon and Garfunkel's Here's To You Mrs Robinson atop the UK charts to mark Iris Robinson's affair has gathered added pace today, as it entered Amazon's Top 25.
After less than one day of sales, the track had reached Number 53 in the Amazon Top 100
Download chart. Now, following two full days of sales, it has reached Number 23 in the Amazon Top 100 Download chart and is currently at Number 137 in the iTunes Download Chart, having entered the Top 200 yesterday evening.
On Monday, banners promoting the campaign - which began on Facebook -
were attached to railings outside the Northern Ireland Assembly
Stormont Building in Belfast, as well as other locations throughout the
city.
The campaign is gaining attention internationally in Australia, the US and has even been tweeted by Boy George.
Organisers have said that - if the song achieves a good position in the
UK Mid-week Chart tomorrow - then there is real potential that the song
will reach the top ten.
Aproximately 1,500 sales will achieve a Top 40 position, with 25,000
normally achieving a Top Ten position. Download copies of the single
can be purchased online from Amazon, iTunes and Play.com for 62p.
A number of Facebook groups have been set up in the few days since the
Iris Robinson story broke and currently there are over 12,000
supporters of the campaign across facebook..
An additional 2,000 people joined the Here's To You Mrs Robinson For Number 1 Facebook group this morning.
The power of Facebook campaigns was displayed last month, when Rage
Against The Machine stopped last year's X Factor winner, Joe McElderry,
from obtaining the UK's Christmas Number 1.
