LGBTory chair Matthew Sephton has been branded a "homosexual pervert" by one of his competitors who will challenge him for Hazel Blears' seat in the next General Election.

Independent candidate Richard Carvarth met Sephton's appointment with a tirade of abuse via his online blog.

In an entry entitled 'Tories select homosexual pervert for Salford and Eccles' - he describes himself as “pro-heterosexual” and Sephton as a “homosexual pervert”.

He then labels Sephton’s own blog, which consists of a report of what the LGBTory group got up to over Manchester Pride, as "heavy with pro homosexual pervert content.”

He added: “I very much doubt that the vast majority of the Salford and Eccles electorate will want to be represented by a prominent homosexual activist.”

A closer look at Carvarth’s election manifesto, reveals a number of homophobic policies. If elected he vows to; “work for a complete ban on homosexuals fostering or adopting children, for the abolition of civil partnerships, for the re-criminalisation of the act of
buggery, for the restoration of ‘Section 28’, and for the criminalisation of public homosexual behaviour and the public promotion of homosexuality.”

The Chief Executive of the Lesbian & Gay Foundation, Paul Martin said; “Richard Carvath as candidate for Salford and Eccles should be dedicated to representing all his constituents. His homophobic comments and policies send a clear message to the sizeable LGB&T population of Salford and Eccles that he doesn’t represent them.

"This is not about political affiliation, a number of LGF employees and service users live in this consistuency, it is simply unacceptable to make these kind of homophobic comments to anyone.”

LGBT Labour have sent out a supportive message to their Conservative rivals on twitter saying that they; “support LGBT Tory in their disgust at the vile bigotry being written about the Tory candidate in Salford”.

Carvath has stated on his blog that his offensive entry has been reported to Greater Manchester Police.

Richard Carvath must come from Dorset or be part of the homophobic countryside alliance or the Evangeligal religion. I have to listen to that kind of homophobic crap all the time here. Its not unusual in Britain is it ? We do need more positive gay candidates but we do have some already. They should do more to help low income Gays and claimants with povery and homophobic abuse.

Mr Carvath says he is an Evangelical Christian and expresses these views out of love, not hatred. He has been warned by the police. I am not a Conservative and wil not be voting for Mr Sephton because of his policies not because of his sexuality. However, the abuse he has recieved is totally unnacceptable and deserves our support as gay and right thinking peoples.

i am a constituent of Salford and gay and a Christian. His views are vile and disgusting. The blog can be reported as a hate crime by accessing your local police website and completing the hate crime form if you are offended by his remarks. this is what i have done. The more people report it the better chances of action being taken against him. I have set a new group on facebook "We do not love Richard Carvath". Please support by joining and passing to your friends to express our disgust at his views and the damage he is doing to Christianity in Salford.

This is just disgusting. It is time the voters made their disgust known and refused to support people like Richard Carvarth. Is there no legal action that can be taken against such hate? I suspect Sephton would make a much better MP than his heterosexual homophobic rival!
