The officer who led the operation to snare Scotland’s largest paedophile ring has received an award for Outstanding Achievement.
Detective Inspector Stuart Hood was honoured with the Chief Constable’s Award at the Lothian and Borders Annual Excellence awards last week.
DI Hood led the police inquiry into a web of child abuse, nicknamed Operation Algebra, which put eight men behind bars for 75 years and saw ringleaders James Rennie, former chief executive of LGBT Youth Scotland, and Neil Strachan handed lifelong restrictions at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill praised the work of the police and told parliament the operation was “world class”.
The team behind Operation Algebra were also awarded in the Criminal Justice and Tackling Crime categories.
