Alan Cumming was awarded an OBE yesterday from the Princess Royal kitted-out in a colourful tartan outfit.
Arriving in a kilt complete with sporran and large boots, the 44-year old was honoured for his services to film, theatre and gay rights.
He said afterwards: "I have no underpants on." And on receiving the award he explained how he joked with the Princess Royal: “I said if I fainted to not be alarmed. She thought it was hilarious."
Cumming has appeared in films such as
Goldeneye and
X-Men, and has also taken to the stage on numerous occasions appearing in the likes of
Bent,
Hamlet and
Cabaret. His next play is
Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark in which he plays the Green Goblin alongside Evan Rachel Wood.
