Singer/songwriter Elton John made his first public appearance following his hospitalisation for an E.coli infection, last night.
The 62-year-old attended his annual Enduring Vision event for the Elton John Aids Foundation in New York.
Despite having not fully recovered from the illness, which saw him cancel a number of UK and European tour dates, he warned that youngsters are being complacent about HIV and AIDS.
"We are finding that too many young people are not listening to what we are saying,' he told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat. "It's a cyclical thing. Every 10 years a new generation comes along and you have to re-educate them."
During the evening, four awards were bestowed. Former US President Bill Clinton, philanthropists Lily Safra and Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, and AIDS activist Sharon Stone were all honoured.
The foundation aims to fund innovative HIV prevention programs, to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and offers direct care and support services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
