The West End production of Prick Up Your Ears will close three weeks early, due to poor ticket sales following Matt Lucas' sudden departure.
The Little Britain star pulled out of the show in the beginning of October after his ex-partner Kevin McGee was found dead at his Edinburgh flat.
Con O’Neill, who played record producer Joe Meek in the production of Telstar, took on the role after Lucas quit.
A producer for the show told the BBC: “Despite very good feedback and notices for Con O’Neill’s performance, the box office sales have not been sufficient to keep the show going.”
This resulted in them having to take “the difficult decision” to close the show early.
The story is based on the playwright Joe Orton and his lover Kenneth Halliwell.
Lucas had been playing the role of Halliwell in the production, which is based on a 1978 biography of the same name by John Lahr as well as Orton’ diaries.
Prick Up Your Ears also stars Chris New as Orton and 1980’s Duty Free actress Gwen Taylor.
