A demonstration of Muslim hardliners calling for Sharia Law to be imposed in Britain pulled out at the last minute following planned counter-protests.
The British Muslims for Secular Democracy and many of its supporters poured into Central London on Saturday in protest of Islam extremist group Islam4UK’s planned “March for Sharia” from Westminster to Trafalgar Square.
Islam4UK, who are linked to extremist Islamic organisation Al-Muhajiroun, are responsible for the publication of a leaflet entitled: ‘Homosexuality, Bestiality, Lesbianism, Adultery And Fornication: The Deadly Diseases’ and praising the 9/11 terrorists as “magnificent”, cancelled its march claiming it had received threats from far right groups.
Protestors who turned up to oppose Islam4UK’s demonstration at Piccadilly Circus included human rights activists, bloggers, and journalists.
Human rights campaigner Tatchell has declared the failed protest a reason to celebrate. “Had al Muhajiroun dared to march on the streets of London, they would have been outnumbered to the point of complete humiliation,” he told PinkPaper.com.
“We will do the same again if the Islam4UK group, or any other front organisation of the extremists of al Muhajiroun, tries to stage another stunt like Saturday’s failed “March for Sharia” from Westminster to Trafalgar Square. Islam4UK claims that it cancelled its march because it had received threats from far right groups. It may well have, but the bottom line is this: had al Muhajiroun dared to march on the streets of London, they would have been outnumbered to the point of complete humiliation.”
The Islamic Society of Britain, hailed the cancellation as “a great success”. Spokesperson for the BMSD, Tehmina Kazi, said: “The turnout was very good considering Muslims4UK pulled out at the last minute. I really think that Muslim4UK still should have come out for democracy, pluralism and freedom and all other values that we hold so dear. That’s why the BMSD still turned out for the demonstration.”
