Shrewsbury is hosting its very own gay film festival for the fourth consecutive year, this month.
The week long Rainbow Film Festival is to be held in the Old Market Hall cinema and offers a variety of iconic gay films.
This years pick include, The Times of Harvey Milk, the Itty Bitty Titty Committee and I Can’t Think Straight, amongst others.
The festival takes place every November and is run entirely by volunteers. It has steadily been gaining in popularity since it began in 2006.
One of the festival’s organisers, Geoff Hardy, is an active campaigner for gay rights and believes it is important to promote gay events in the town throughout the year to keep the town’s gay community proudly in the public eye.
Local Councillor Miles Kenny says of the festival: “I really appreciate what is being done and what better way to get the message over than through the media of cinema entertainment. The Rainbow Film Festival makes Shrewsbury a better place to be”
The Old Market Hall was also one of the first cinemas in the country to show the film Milk, in February this year. Organisers of the RFF said: “we were very pleased that the Old Market Hall Cinema was amongst the first in the country to screen Milk, and that they marked LGBT History Month”
The festival will run from the 27 November-3 December. For the full film programme and additional information go to: rainbowfilmfestival.org.uk.
