Pride in Brighton and Hove is keeping their appeal for financial support fresh by declaring a selection of new fundraising events.

Brighton Pride have announced several fundraising events aimed at wiping out the financial deficit from this year’s event, which took place in August. Despite a good start, three weeks into the appeal and the total funds raised stand at just £2,816.35 – a long way off the £50,000 needed.

However, Pride are collaborating with White Air, Europe’s largest extreme sports and music festival, which takes place in Brighton on the weekend beginning 18 September. In support of Pride, White Air has set up an exclusive promotion on Ticketmaster where punters can buy discounted tickets for the festival. For every ticket purchased, White Air will make a donation to Pride in Brighton and Hove.

Judith Manson, Pride’s Fundraising and Communications Manager said, “With the collapse of Beachdown, Loop and the recent question mark over the comedy festival it’s very important that we work together in these difficult times. Like Pride, White Air is just what Brighton is about, we should all support it so it is not only a fantastic event this year but every year in the Brighton calendar.”

Local LGBT businesses are also providing support. Several local club nights are collecting donations and The Queen’s Arms pub in Kemp Town will be laying on entertainment for an entire weekend of fundraising in which they have set themselves a minimum target of £1,500. The Queen’s Arms landlord, Andy Feest, told PinkPaper.com:

“I think it’s very important that the community does its bit to keep Pride free. If the money isn’t raised it means next year Preston Park will be fenced in and the cost to stage the event will increase so much that numbers will have to be limited. It’s important that people across the UK donate to keep Brighton Pride in its current format which is so successful.”

He is confident that the fundraiser will hit target, “I intend to try my best to reach our target by making a donation of £250, plus 20p will be donated from every drink sold at the Queen’s Arms on the weekend of 9-11 October. There will also be a raffle, some auctions and we are asking for a donation on the door.”
