The event has always proved popular amongst the party-goers, but some people are now criticising the event saying that it has lost its political roots.
Reclaim The Scene is a group of students based in Manchester and Salford that will be marching under the banner of “Pride is a Protest”.
A statement from the group says: “The creation of the group is in response to a Pride weekend that is rapidly being depoliticised and sees ‘the village’ annually fenced off to anyone that doesn't own a wristband, the price of which has steadily gone up over the years.
“The Reclaim The Scene group argue that this causes social exclusion, particularly to students and youth.”
It is supported by the National Union of Students' LGBT Campaign, UNISON, Britain's largest public sector trade union and the Queer Youth Network.
It has also organised several other alternative activities throughout the weekend including a free post-parade picnic from 15.00pm at Manchester University North Campus off Sackville Street.
