The event has always proved popular amongst the party-goers, but some people are now criticising the event saying that it has lost its political roots.

Reclaim The Scene is a group of students based in Manchester and Salford that will be marching under the banner of “Pride is a Protest”.

A statement from the group says: “The creation of the group is in response to a Pride weekend that is rapidly being depoliticised and sees ‘the village’ annually fenced off to anyone that doesn't own a wristband, the price of which has steadily gone up over the years.
“The Reclaim The Scene group argue that this causes social exclusion, particularly to students and youth.”

It is supported by the National Union of Students' LGBT Campaign, UNISON, Britain's largest public sector trade union and the Queer Youth Network.

It has also organised several other alternative activities throughout the weekend including a free post-parade picnic from 15.00pm at Manchester University North Campus off Sackville Street.

I have to agree with the comment below about Pride being a joke! What's there to feel proud about when the majority of the businesses in The Village are clearly out to make as much money as they can buy increasing there prices. As the prices rise over The Holiday weekend the standard of service we receive is much lower and the toilets become a a health trap. I for one will not be attending again whilst the gay community is being had for mugs by there fellow comrades. Something really should be done about this sooner rather than later.

Manchester Pride is becoming a joke. So many people feel disillusioned. The only true winners are the businesses like the bars, who shamelessly increase their prices over the weekend and the crappy sponsors who get plug all kinds of shite in hope for some of that pink pound. Time for a change for sure.
