Scarborough’s Peasholm Park is to host the town’s first ever-gay Pride this year, on Sunday 6 September, 12pm until 4pm.
A spokesperson from the group, Gay Scarborough, which is the group organising the event, said to press: “this is the first Pride event of its kind in Scarborough.
“We’d be really pleased if the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community came to support it. We hope this will become an annual event and will get bigger and better each year.”
Chairman of the Friends of Peasholm Park group, Christine Mark, said in a press release: “We are delighted to host another event in the park celebrating the diversity of our community.
“I was also really touched to hear that the mayor has changed his schedule to make sure he can come along to support us.
“I think homophobia is still a fear for a lot of people, but members of the group have found that the people of Scarborough are generally tolerant, happy and good people.”
