We love Ms Lauper, we really do, but there’s something about Merry Christmas… that we just couldn’t “get” on first, or indeed second, listen.
A bit of a camp old racket (the album, not her) it’s not traditional by any stretch of the word, but then we wouldn’t expect anything less.
That said, her version of Silent Night, which closes the album (not soon enough) is really rather beautiful.
