A completely unexpected turn of events sees 80s pop queen Cyndi Lauper return with an absolute blinder of a dance album.
Roping in the likes of Basement Jaxx, Kleerup (Robyn) and Dragonette means that, to use a line from the album, this is anything but “the same old fucking story.” In fact, we’re sure the lady herself would appreciate us saying its fucking brilliant. The quality of lyrics for a “dance” album is above and beyond what you’d expect, and anyone describing this as “doing a Cher” should be shot – Lauper’s always made pop for the gays.
With songs that just build and build until it’s practically poppers o’clock we can’t stop listening to this, and we can’t stop playing it loud, especially Into The Nightlife, Echo and Grab A Hold.
Better than Hard Candy, X and Crayons put together, Bring Ya To The Brink is easily our album of the year.
