Embracing the public craving for all things astrology-related which swept the UK in those lazy, hazy days of the flower powered early 1970's, ITV's mystery series Zodiac finally comes to DVD.

When calm and methodical Detective Inspector David Gradley (Anton Rodgers) meets Earth-child Esther Jones (Anouska Hempel), the pair find themselves investigating various crimes which can apparently only be solved with prior knowledge of the victim's star sign or a reading of the Tarot cards.

Across just six episodes, the will-they, won't-they relationship bubbles under the surface while the pair try to find a kidnapped girl or a Brighton-based murderer alongside a handful of other low-key affairs the police seem baffled by.

Creator Roger Marshall, better known for his involvement in The Avengers, sadly brings little of that series' charm to Zodiac, with Rodgers and Hempel struggling to give much energy to the flat scripts performed on tight budgets.

Some fun can be had from the way-out fashions and appearance of Robert Powell in an early role, but otherwise this is one for mystery series completists only.

Zodiac is available exclusively from www.networkdvd.net
