Amidst all the schmaltzy family crap you'll be forced to digest during the "festive period", what could potentially be the jewel in the crown of the BBC's Christmas programming threatens to be buried in the schedules.
It's a remake of the 1981 six part BBC serial (which, in turn, was adapted from the original 1951 novel by John Wyndham) where carnivorous plants take over the planet. It's showing over two nights between Christmas and New Year and it's absolutely ruddy brilliant.
This 2009 version stars Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley and is more in keeping with a Hollywood blockbuster than your standard television drama.
Word to the wise – do not miss this.
